Schloss Prunkenstein on its crag at night, every spire in gold, under fireworks and five stars

Willkommen in PrunkensteinWelcome to Prunkenstein

The Bludgeoning of the Tyrant King: Curse of the Stars

Germany's grandest dungeon. Heroes admitted free.

Die LegendeThe legend

A cursed kingdom. A tyrant king at the bottom of the grandest dungeon ever built. And one knight, magnificent, who would be the first to tell you so.

  1. Once, the kingdom of Prunkenstein was the envy of the world, and five bright stars watched over it.

  2. Its king, Ludolf von Prunk, the Terrible, spent its treasury on the grandest dungeon ever built, and sat at the very bottom of it, on his gold.

  3. Then came the Curse of the Stars. One by one, the stars began to fail.

  4. Only one hero could break it. He was, he would be the first to tell you, magnificent.

SehenswürdigkeitenAttractions

What awaits you

Ein Heldenempfang

A hero's welcome

Fireworks over the bridge, a herald on the wall, a banner with your name on it, and a portcullis that rises by itself, to a fanfare. Bad Niederprunk does like to make an occasion of it.

Das Verlies

The Prunkenstein Vaults

Hall after hall beneath the castle: goblins, archers and the Tyrant's Guard, traps of fire, shafts to climb and cellars to swim. Run, jump, fight, block and shoot your way down.

Die Schatzkammer

The Treasury

Legendary loot in every chest, and on its plinth in the Treasure Room the Kingbreaker: a hammer that hums, and that no shield will stop.

Der Brunnen der Fünf Wächter

The Fountain of the Five Watchers

Rest at the healing fountain, shop with the castle's own merchant, have the smith temper your hammer, and spend your skill points in the constellations on the ceiling.

Der Drache

Ashmaw

The Tyrant King's dragon, guardian of the Grand Stair, eater of the Ninth Expedition and most of the Tenth. It flies. It floods its arena with fire. Visitors are asked not to feed it.

Die Große Treppe

The Grand Stair

One thousand four hundred and twelve steps, all but one of them structural, under a dome of painted stars. The Tyrant King waits at the bottom.

What our visitors say

  • ★★★★★
The portcullis rose of its own accord. In eleven castles, that has never once happened to me. A most proper dungeon.

FIREWORKS when you arrive!! The dragon was SO hot. Literally. We are coming back every year forever.

    Die Goldene Schar, adventuring party

Historically impeccable, architecturally ambitious and, on the whole, correctly labelled.
